Police & Crime Commissioner for Northumbria
The PCC is responsible for overseeing the Chief Constable and hold the Chief to account to ensure an efficient and effective police service for the area.
The PCC and Chief Constable are governed by guidelines based on principles of goodwill, professionalism, openness and trust.
The Police and Crime Panel (PCP) scrutinises and supports the PCC. The panel is made up of at least ten councillors from the six local councils along with two co-opted members.
The elections for the PCC for Northumbria last took place on 5th May 2016 and Dame Vera Baird QC was re-elected, with a majority of more than 120,000.
