Internet and social media
Social networking is a part of modern life and a tool used by most children and young people.
However, it’s important to be aware of the risks posed and that offenders often use these networks to identify young people they can groom, often without the child’s knowledge.
Examples include encouraging the young person to send or post images and then blackmailing them.
GPS technology on mobile phones also poses a risk as it can identify the location where a photograph was taken, increasing the risk to the victim.
