Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 15 May 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

  1. How many breaches of the Data Protection Act there have been in 2011 and so far in 2012 by police officers or police staff?

  2. How many of these cases resulted in a financial penalty for the force and what was the total of each of these payments? (eg how much did each breach cost the force)

  3. How many complaints has the force received in regards to the force breaching data protection laws in 2011 and so far in 2012?

  4. How much did the force spend in total correcting breach of data mistakes in 2011 and so far in 2012?

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

ollowing receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Legal and Professional Standards Departments  of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. For the period specified there have been 6 such reported breaches.

  2. None.

  3. None.

  4. No information held.  No money has been spent.

 

 

You may be interested to know that Northumbria Police routinely publish information that has been disclosed by Northumbria Police in response to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 via the Disclosure Log.  The aim of the Disclosure Log is to promote openness and transparency by voluntarily placing information into the public arena.
