Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 19 March 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

  1. How many police officers from your force were arrested in 2011? Please provide:

    • A breakdown of which rank each police officer was and what their offence was,
    • As much detail about each case as possible. For instance: if they were arrested for a driving offence, please state if it was for drink-driving, speeding or something else. Or if it was a sexual offence, was it rape, molestation, with under-age girls/boys etc? or if breach of the peace, please specify what kind.
    • Which of the arrested officers were convicted
    • And how was each case was handled? I.e. were they dismissed, given a formal warning, retired etc?
    • How many of the officers continue to work for the force? (Please specify which ones do/don't)
    • Please state whether they were on or off duty when they were arrested.
  2. How many police officers were arrested in 2010, 2009 and 2008? Please provide as much of the above information as possible for each of these years.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Professional Standards Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The following information has been based upon information held in spreadsheets maintained by Professional Standards Department.  The information held relates to arrests of officers and staff which are attached to conduct and misconduct cases based on the case recorded date from 2005 – YTD 2012.  The data has been filtered based upon officers for whom the arrest date was between 2008 and 2011.  The information below relates to police officers only.  A conviction has been classed as an instance in which the officer has attended court.  Miscellaneous cases have not been included in the search.  Please note that data has been organised based on arrest date.  Also to note that it is possible that an officer may appear in more than one year.

With the above in mind please see the attachment below which answers all parts of your request.

 

 

You may be interested to know that Northumbria Police routinely publish information that has been disclosed by Northumbria Police in response to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 via the Disclosure Log.  The aim of the Disclosure Log is to promote openness and transparency by voluntarily placing information into the public arena.
