Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 4 June 2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
a. I would like to request the number of assaults on police officers in Sunderland, in the last financial year, please.
b.I would like this information broken down into the sex of the police officer,
c. what type of injury was sustained,
d. what type of treatment was received - for example whether they had to be treated in hospital.
I would also like this information for the previous year so as to compare the figures.
a. I would also like to request the number of officers who have reported having been racially assaulted in Sunderland either by the public or by a colleague in the last financial year.
b. I would like to request their race.
I would also like the same figures for the past two financial years.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with both the HR and Professional Standards Departments of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

- Information on racially motivated assaults is not recorded specifically relating to Police officers, however I can confirm that none of the above assaults were recorded as racially motivated. With regards to officers racially assaulted by colleagues, I can confirm there have been no such incidents reported.
