Thank you for your e mail dated 20 October 2016 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
1. Under the Freedom of Information Act, please could you provide me the number of cannabis farms detected in the Northumbria Police area in each of the years, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16.

3. Please state the estimated money value of the cannabis found from all factories discovered in the Northumbria Police Area in each of the years, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted within Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
Financial years 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 have been collated using the commercial cannabis flag. This was not introduced until late 2011/12.
Financial year 2011/12 has been collated by searching through the MO for all offences of 'cultivation of a cannabis plant in that period; marking those identified as a cannabis farm either by the officers description of the crime scene; the quantity of plants found or the equipment identified. If an MO states that the cannabis was for personal use or there were very few plants found, these have not been counted.
For that reason figures for 2011/12 should not be used for comparative purposes to the other financial years as the data has been collated using a different method.
If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would expect that you to take into consideration the factors highlighted above so as not to mislead members of the public or official bodies or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.
With the above in mind please see the below attached.
3. No information held. This is not collated.
Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
The information we have supplied to you is likely to contain intellectual property rights of Northumbria Police. Your use of the information must be strictly in accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) or such other applicable legislation. In particular, you must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.
