Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

Thank you for your e mail dated 10 June  2016 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions. 

You asked:

Since controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship became a criminal offence under section 76 of the Serious Crime Act 2015, from the 29th December 2015 to date (10th June):

1.       How many people have been arrested under Section 76 of the act?

2.       Of those arrested under Section 76 of the act, please provide the outcome? E.g. charged, cautioned etc.

3.       Please could you provide a breakdown of the gender and age of the offenders in each case?

4.       Please could you provide a breakdown of the gender and age of the victims in each case?

5.       Since 29th December 2015 to date (10th June 2016) how many successful convictions has the force had under Section 76 of the act? 

6.     Could you also please provide details as to whether the alleged incident took place in an intimate personal relationship or were family members?


We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
