I have decided to disclose the information as follows
Northumbria Police does not have a contract for the provision of custody Medical Expert services however it does have service level agreements with individual doctors to provide the service.
In order to assist, the approximate number of assessments/examinations is given below. To give exact numbers would require a complete review of all claim forms submitted by medical experts as there may be more than one assessment or examination recorded on each form. This full review would exceed the permitted time of 18 hours under the Acts legislation to establish.
Financial Year 2010/11 – 22,283
Financial Year 2011/12 – 23,134.
Information for 2012/13 is not yet available.
No medical staff are located on site. All current doctors are on call
We currently have four on call at any one time.
Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
The information we have supplied to you is likely to contain intellectual property rights of Northumbria Police. Your use of the information must be strictly in accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) or such other applicable legislation. In particular, you must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.
