Provision of informati11 held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 2 February 2015 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

I would like to know the following:

1) How many allegations of crimes reported to and investigated by your police force have included the words 'selfie-stick' or 'monopod'.
2) State which crime is alleged to have been committed in each case eg theft, voyeurism, sexual offences etc
3) State whether there have been any arrests or charges.
4) Include the date (or month)
5) Search only for allegations which contain 'selfie-stick' or 'monopod' between January 1st 2014 and January 31st 2015. 

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

 Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The information provided is based on a search of the whole incident report for key words 'selfie' and 'monopod', for those incidents recorded between 01/01/2014 and 31/01/2015.

1) During the period 01/01/2014 and 31/01/2015 there was one incident report (allegation of crime) which mentioned 'selfie-stick'.
2) From this incident there is one crime of theft recorded.
3) Two individuals were arrested, with no further action taken against both suspects. The crime is currently undetected.
4) Incident occurred and crime recorded in November 2014.

During the period 01/01/2014 and 31/01/2015 there were no incident reports (allegations of crime) which mentioned 'monopod'.


Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another.  Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
