Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 30 August 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

  1. How many children (under 18) were reported as the perpetrators of sex offences committed against a child (under 18) in your police force area during the year April 2011 – March 2012 inclusive? And the same data for years 2009/10 and 2010/11.

  2. For each of the datasets requested in question 1 please also provide a breakdown of the actual offences.

  3. For each of the datasets requested in question 1 please also provide a breakdown of the relationship between the victim and the alleged perpetrator if known.

  4. For each of the datasets requested in question 1 please also provide a breakdown of the ages and gender of the victims.

  5. For each of the datasets requested in question 1 please also provide a breakdown of the gender and age for the alleged perpetrators.

  6. How many sex offences by under 18s resulted in a conviction or caution for each set of data requested in question 1?

If the answer to question 1 for several different years pushes the cost over the FoI threshold please just give the most recent year’s figures (2011/12) for each question.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The information we have provided above has been presented in such a way to ensure no individual can be identified, however any requests to break this down further is likely to attract relevant exemptions and will not be disclosed.

You may be interested to know that Northumbria Police routinely publish information that has been disclosed by Northumbria Police in response to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 via the Disclosure Log.  The aim of the Disclosure Log is to promote openness and transparency by voluntarily placing information into the public arena.
