Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 5 October 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

The most recent 12 months of vehicle crime data (including, but not limited to vehicle break-ins, vehicle thefts, criminal damage to vehicles etc), including as many of the following fields as you can provide:

  1. Make of car

  2. Model of car 

  3. Type of offence 

  4. Town of offence 

  5. Street of offence 

  6. Date of offence 

  7. Colour of car 

  8. Year of first registration 

  9. Outcome of investigation

For privacy reasons it may not be possible to release data to street level. If this is the case, please may we request a second, additional data set detailing:

  1. Type of offence 

  2. Street of offence 

  3. Town of offence. 

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

As per your request, as the first set of questions would have had exemptions applied to withhold the data, we have taken your second set of questions as the requested information.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The information provided has been based on crimes created between 01/10/11 and 30/09/12 in the following categorie

  • Theft from a M/V

  • TWOC / Theft of a M/V

  • Criminal damage to a M/V

  • Vehicle interference

The information has been given down to the Area Command location of the crime.  This is due to how addresses are stored in the database used to extract this information and will be the most accurate location of where the crime took place.

With the above in mind please see the below attached which answers your request.
