Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 29 July 2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

Please provide the following for the most recent year available:
 
Road death investigation 

  1. Road death investigation budget 

  2. Number of Collision Investigators 

    Life threatening/changing injury collision investigation 

  3. We believe collision investigators are also responsible for investigating life threatening/changing injuries. Please confirm or correct this. If known, please give the number of non-fatal collisions that collision investigators had to investigate in the last year.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the HR Department and the Motor Patrols Unit of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. No information held.  Northumbria Police do not separately budget for Road death Investigations or Homicides.

  2. There are 11 Collision Investigation officers. Establishment data as at 30/07/2013

  3. Yes Collision Investigators attend the scene of Life threatening  / Changing injuries collisions.

    The Officer In Charge would remain a member of the Motor Patrols department who would use the expertise and evidence attained by the Collision Unit Investigators as part of the collision investigation.

    Serious Injury investigations attended by Collision Unit Investigators for the last year are as follows

  4. No information held.  Northumbria Police do not separately budget for Road death Investigations or Homicides.

  5. We currently have 37 officers who perform the core functions within any homicide investigations. They are supplemented from the wider Major Crime Team and department as necessary.
