Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 21st June 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

1. I would like to know if your police force is awaiting any payment from football clubs in your area for policing matters as of June 21, 2012. By that I mean if there is an outstanding amount owed to the police by the football club for services.

2. Can you also tell me what the amount is,

3. what services it is for,

4. who the football club is and

5. how long the fee has been outstanding?

6. Can you also tell me how long your police force gives football clubs to settle their account and what action, if any, is taken in recovering this amount if the club goes over that time limit.

7. Can you also tell me how many times in the last five years you have had to take legal action against clubs to recover the amounts owed and who the clubs were? (For seasons 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12

In response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance and Resources Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

1. Yes

2. £110,310 was outstanding as at the 21st June 2012

3. The service was for the Policing of Football games.

4. Newcastle United & Sunderland

5. As at the 21st June their were 5 invoices outstanding from the following dates.

Invoice Issued 08 May 2012, 
Invoice Issued 08 May 2012,
Invoice Issued 08 May 2012,
Invoice issued 22 May 2012.

6.  A reminder is sent 1 month after the date of invoice, a further reminder is sent 2 weeks after the 1st reminder

7. No legal action has been taken for the seasons specified.
