Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 18 June 2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

  1. I would be grateful if you could inform me as to the cost of the hire per horse you could charge other local police forces per day, or if there is a set amount per hour, and at what cost please.

  2. Does the hire of the horse(s) come with one of your the police officer(s) in charge, and if so, is that an additional cost, thanks.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

Northumbria Police make charges to other forces in line with national Guidance on Charging for Police Services Mutual Aid Cost Recovery. Under this there is no separate hire cost per horse. If a horse is requested a Northumbria Police mounted officer will be provided with the horse and the charge made will be the mutual aid officer rate plus a 25% premium to reflect the horse and rider being a resource. Transportation charges will also be allowed under the guidance.
