Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 30 April 2014 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
I would like to request the following information about spending on health and safety training for members of staff:
1. Could you please provide me with the total amount of money spent on health and safety training for employees by your organisation in the following two periods: (a) January 1, 2010 - December 31, 2010 (or the nearest available 12-month period – please specify), and (a) January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2013 (or the nearest available 12-month period – please specify)
2. For each of these two time periods, please state how many staff employed by your organisation underwent this training.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the HR Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.
Cost for internal delivery of courses is not calculated as this is part of staff duties, therefore there is no information held for that part of the request.
The information for costs relating to external courses is below.
Health and safety training delivered by external training providers:
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health approved Senior Executive and Managing Safely courses for senior management and supervisors
2010 – cost £7527. Number of officers/staff trained 52
2013 – cost Nil Number of officers/staff trained 33
Training for senior managers in relation to health and safety (IOSH level 1) is now delivered through a national e-learning suite which has resulted in the savings above.
Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
