Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act') 

Thank you for your e mail dated 18 January 2017 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police. 

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions. 

You asked:

please can you provide data on the number of times Tasers have been used against a person aged under 18 in each of the local authorities covered by the police force in the years 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013 

-Please provide the data broken down by categories of use 

-Please could you also provide a breakdown of the gender and age of those a Taser was deployed against


We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Firearms Support Unit of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police. 

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.


Age 15. Taser was aimed, Newcastle - in possession of Knife


Age 17. Taser was drawn, South Tyneside - Self Harm in possession of knife.

Age 17. Taser  was fired,  South Tyneside - Self Harm and in possession of knife.

Age 14.  Taser was drawn, Newcastle - in possession of axe.


Age 17. Taser was aimed, Newcastle  - Self Harm and in possession of knife May 2015. 

Age 17. Taser was drawn and red dotted, North Tyneside - in possession of knife.

Age 17. Taser was drawn/red dotted, Newcastle - in possession of knife.


Age 17. Taser was drawn/red dotted, Northumberland  - in possession of glass

Age 16. Taser Discharged, Sunderland - in possession of a knife. 

All were male.
