Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 7th February 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
How many people have you granted firearms and shotgun licences to (including those renewed) from July 1 2011 to January 2012.
In how many cases since July 2011 has a licence been revoked (or refused) as a result of information supplied by the licence holder’s GP.
Where the licence has been revoked since July 2011 due to information supplied by a GP, please state the reason for the decision and the type of licence (shotgun or firearm)
For Q1 and Q2, please give totals for i) shotguns ii) firearms iii) shotguns and firearms.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
As advised previously this request has been aggregated with your previous request, FOI 69/12 - Firearms, due to the cost and time implications as it refers to the same subject area.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Firearms Licensing Department Unit of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.
We have granted and renewed 1,975 shotgun certificates and 1,072 firearms certificates between 1 July 2011 and 31 January 2012. Please note that a number of people may hold both firearms and shotgun certificates at the same time.
There have been three cases from 1 July 2011 until 31 January 2012 when a licence has been revoked or refused due to information from a GP:-
1 x shotgun revoked.
2 x shotgun grants refused.
The three cases from 1 July 2011 until 31 January 2012 are as follows:-
1 x shotgun revoked due to danger to public safety or to the police.
1 x shotgun grant refused due to non disclosure and as a result of information from the medical records.
1 x shotgun grant refused due to information obtained with the applicants permission from their medical records.
