Dated: 31 Jul 2015

Date of request:   23/05/2012

Date of response:   21/06/2012

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 23 May 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

I am seeking information relating to whether you have a force flag, and if so, where it may be routinely flown (for example outside all police stations or just your HQ or just for 'special occasions') but most importantly the design of the flag itself.

Where you may have a coastal/river/marine division, could you also inform me as to whether their vessels have their own defaced ensign or similar flag?

I would prefer you to communicate via email to this email address, and would ideally like to receive a digital image of the design of the flag(s) if possible, but where this is totally impractical or excessively expensive, a detailed written description will suffice.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Media Department, all Area Commands and the Chief Officer Team of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

We do not have an image of the force flag, however I can confirm that it contains the corporate image, which is the force badge on a blue background.  That image is freely available on each page of the Northumbria Police force website.  The flag is flown routinely outside all area commands, and those police stations with flag poles.

In order to assist further I have provided the relevant link below.

An image of the flag used by the Marine Unit is attached below.
