Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 18 November 2014 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

 1.       How many arrests in total did your force make in a) the year 2014 to date b) the whole of 2013 c) the whole of 2012?
2.       Of these arrests, how many were of Romanian nationals? Please provide separate answers for a) the year 2014 to date b) the whole of 2013 c) the whole of 2012
3.       Of these arrests, how many were of Bulgarian nationals? Please provide separate answers for a) the year 2014 to date b) the whole of 2013 c) the whole of 2012
4.       Please set out all of the crimes with which Romanians have been charged in the year 2014 to date ie 2 murders, 34 burglaries, 56 ABH
5.       Please set out all of the crimes with which Bulgarians have been charged in the year 2014 to date ie 2 murders, 34 burglaries, 56 ABH

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department  of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The information provided in response to  questions  1 - 3 has been compiled by counting all arrests including those for non notifiable offences, for example drink driving, drunk and disorderly or mental health section 136 detentions.

The information provided in response to questions 4 and 5 has been compiled by counting all charges for the period 01/01/14 to 31/10/14 irrespective of when the person was arrested.

With the above in mind  please see the attachment which fully answers your query   

Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another.  Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
