Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 14 December 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

lease provide the number of motorists who have taken up the offer of a driver awareness course in place of a fine, penalty points, or court appearance, for each of the past five calendar years (2008-2012). Please break this down into the types of offence committed and the courses that were taken up.

Please also provide figures for any income received by the force or any partners from the fees paid by motorists attending driver awareness courses for each of the past five calendar years (2008-2012). this would cover any part of the fee that did not go to the course provider

Please provide details of any fees paid to the force or any partners by driver awareness course providers for each of the past five calendar years.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Fixed Penalty Unit of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

Below are the figures which relate to those that have attended a Driver Improvement Scheme, now named the Driver Alertness Course.
This course is an alternative to court following a minor collision.
