Man assaulted on the Derwent Walk

Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery in Gateshead.

At 4:30pm on Monday, April 11, a 22-year-old man was walking along the Derwent Walk near to 'the Giant's grave' area when he was approached by two men.

They tried to steal the man's mobile phone and sprayed him in the face with liquid. They also kicked him while he was on the ground.

The man attended hospital for minor injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish what the liquid was.

The two men are described as being scruffy looking. One was around 6ft 1ins tall and was wearing a white hooded top and dark cap.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone with any information into the robbery is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 995 12/04/16.
