Police in Newcastle are warning garage owners in Kingston Park to check on their security measures after a number of recent burglaries.

Overnight between Tuesday, January 3, and Wednesday, January 4, four garages were broken into in the Clifton Court area.

A number of items including tools, drills, electronic items and two bikes were stolen.

One of the bikes is a silver GT model and the other a blue and white Focus Raven carbon fibre mountain bike.

Enquiries are ongoing into the break-ins and officers are calling on garage owners to take steps to protect their property.

Inspector Pip Hails said: "We are investigating these thefts and doing all we can to find the stolen items and get them back to their owners. My officers are visiting local residents and passing on advice about how to secure their garages and make them safer. People store a lot of expensive things in their garage and its so important that locks are fitted and used, garage alarms are considered and that anything of value being kept inside a garage is as safe as it can be.

"We also want people to ring the police if they see anyone hanging around garages who looks suspicious. If someone or something doesn't look right, then chances are it won't be. Ring us and report this kind of behaviour and help prevent crimes from happening."

Anyone with any information into the garage burglaries is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 286 04/01/17.
