Appeal after assault in Newcastle street

Police are appealing for information after an assault in a residential street in Newcastle.

At around 4.35pm on Monday, April 10, police received a report that a man had been assaulted on Wingrove Gardens in Fenham.

The victim then managed to get himself to a nearby shop on Nuns Moor Road where somebody called for help.

Emergency services attended and the 45-year-old victim was taken to hospital with a serious head injury by paramedics. He has since been discharged.

Officers attended the scene following the assault but the man responsible had fled the scene.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing but police are now appealing for anyone who saw the attack to contact police.

He is described as Asian, short in height, aged in his 20s and with black hair. He is believed to have been wearing red trainers but there is no other description of his clothing.
