Fatal collision in Whitley Bay

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision between a car and a pedestrian in Whitley Bay.

This happened at 9.42pm on Sunday, May 7, on the A193 The Links in North Tyneside, approximately 20 metres north of the junction with Western Way.

A Renault Megane was travelling south on the A193 when it collided with a pedestrian, an 18-year-old male, near the zebra crossing south from the Briardene Pub.

Emergency services attended, including police and ambulance staff, but sadly the injured pedestrian later died from his injuries.

The road was closed for six and half hours to enable the scene to be examined by officers.

Two men have been arrested in relation to this incident and remain in police custody helping police with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, specifically they would like to speak to any pedestrians or vehicle passengers who were in the area and may have witnessed the collision.

Police would also ask any residents who have CCTV that may have recorded the collision or the circumstances leading up to the collision to contact police.
