Taxi driver robbed in North Tyneside

Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was robbed.
The incident happened at shortly before 5.30am this morning, March 14, as the victim was getting out of his cab on Church Mews, Backworth, North Tyneside.
He was approached by two men who had come from an alleyway next to Church Mews.
They demanded his wallet, then hit him on the head with his money tray before stealing it.
They made off on foot in the direction of Station Road. They were both wearing balaclavas or masks and dark clothing.
The 35-year-old victim suffered facial injuries and was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital for treatment.
