Ride Along Scheme
Northumbria Police operates a Ride Along Scheme which allows members of our community to experience first-hand, what a police officer on patrol encounters whilst carrying out their duties. It provides valuable insight into what we do and how we go about protecting people, fighting crime and keeping Northumbria safe.
Northumbria Police is committed to being as transparent as possible about its work, and our Ride Along Scheme is one way to help us achieve this.
The Ride Along Scheme enables our communities to build a better understanding of the work of police officers in Northumbria. This may include arrests, how we deal with offenders and victims, statement taking, questioning and stop and searches.
Requests to ride along with an officer in your local area will be accommodate wherever possible, as it gives people the opportunity to become more familiar with their local policing team.
Ride-along participants can choose the patrol area and can determine when they want to go out and for how long. A safety briefing must be attended prior to going out on patrol and participants will have to follow the instructions of the officer they’re accompanying at all times. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee the encounters described above as they will only be carried out if there is an operational requirement. This will however be a great opportunity to see a range of policing activities and procedures.
